Indonesia International Book Fair (IIBF) 2020 was officially opened virtually on  Monday (28/9/20). The event presents 1 million books with 30 thousand titles, 150 3D virtual booth, and 75 booktalk webinars which will be filled with 120 speakers from within the country and abroad. The virtual IIBF 2020 will last for 10 days, until 7 October 2020 through Shopee platform.

"This virtual edition tries to present 100 percent festival experiments through gadgets. It turns out that this new opportunity that is not limited by geographic distance is our second transformation, not only for book lovers from Jakarta but from Aceh to Manado," said the Chairman of IIBF 2020 virtual edition committee, Arys Hilman, at the opening of IIBF 2020 via Zoom, on Monday (28/9/2020).

Chairman of IKAPI (Indonesian Publishing Association), Rosidayati Rozalina, revealed that even though the implementation is held virtually in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, they are still excited.

"This virtual edition has another advantage, that we don't have to bother leaving the house to buy books. It's available for 24 hours. We hope it will be a solution for publishers who are experiencing a sales slump due to the pandemic, because bookstores, campuses, or their offices are temporarily closed," she said.

Apart from Indonesia, there are 10 other countries that participated, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Iran, India, Turkey, England, and United States. This year's IIBF is the first time this event is held virtually.
