The annual fashion week event, Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2021, will be opening in a few days. Unlike previous years, this year's JFW will be held virtually through digital platforms because the pandemic has not ended so it is not possible to hold it normally. However, this year's JFW is no less unique, because it will also be broadcast through social media platforms, one of which is TikTok.
“This year's JFW will be the first fashion show in Indonesia to be broadcast live through TikTok. Why TikTok? Because TikTok is a platform for Gen Z,” explained Svida Alisjahbana, CEO of GCM Group, during a virtual press conference, on Thursday (19/11).
TikTok is known to be full of content creators from Gen Z to express themselves, including fashion and beauty fans. Airing a fashion show on TikTok is considered to be one of the right strategies to attract more audiences.
Jakarta Fashion Week 2021 will last for four days, starting on 26 to 29 November 2020 with the theme "Inspiring Creativism". The theme was chosen as a reflection that the current difficult situation will not prevent Indonesian fashion people from continuing to work.
"Pandemic is not a moment for us to give up, especially for creative people, especially in the Indonesian fashion world. On the other hand, we can turn a pandemic into a moment of hope, because in it there is a challenge to create new innovations, there is an encouragement to look for ways to new directions that are more potential, and there is an awakening of a sense of community and caring that is stronger than ever before that," added Svida.
Even though it is held virtually, JFW 2021 will still be enlivened by works of local and international designers. There will be around 16 fashion shows from 60 local designers and labels that are scheduled to enliven this event.
Several labels and designers who are ready to appear at JFW 2021 include Ai Syarif 1965, Albert Yanuar, Amotsyamsurimuda, Bateeq, Batik Chic, Bima Wijaksana, Calla The Label, ETU, Eureka, Everyday, HAM! Jeansku, Hattaco, Iwan Tirta Private Collection, Jan Sober, Jenahara, Kami, Lekat, Nadjani, Pijakbumi, SARE Studio, Super Sentimental Secret Theory, Tities Sapoetra, Toton, Warning Clothing, Wilsen Willim, Yosafat Dwi Kurniawan, 3Mongkis, to Rinaldy Yunardi through Refounders line.
"We also hold a special tribute to Barli Asmara, who recently passed away. His career journey is very close to JFW and this show is dedicated to him," she continued.
Not only fashion shows, fashion enthusiasts can also watch talk shows and other interesting events on several digital platforms such as JFW.TV microsite, JFW's official social media accounts, to JFW's media partner platforms.
